Tata’s new cars: A series of 7 new nameplates to be launched by 2030
If you follow the Indian car market closely, you would know that Tata Motors is now not just a name but a trusted brand. From simple beginnings, Tata has today made itself a strong player in both electric vehicles (EVs) and traditional cars. And now their focus is on the future – a future that is going to be very exciting. By 2030, Tata Motors is going to launch 7 brand-new cars (Upcoming Tata Cars) that can change the entire landscape of the Indian car market. Tata’s plan is not just to introduce new cars, but also to showcase its brand identity in a new way. The company’s target is to bring more than 15 new models to the market by 2030 – which will include both ICE (internal combustion engine) and EVs. Out of these, 7 models will be completely new – no facelift, no minor update – just absolutely fresh models that have never been seen on Indian roads before. And that’s not all, Tata is also going to bring 23 facelifts and updates, which shows that their expansion plan is quite fast.
The models that will create the most buzz are Tata Sierra and Avina. Both these models have already been showcased in concept form, and people are excited about their futuristic design and advanced features. The Sierra, which was once an iconic SUV, is making a comeback–with both electric and petrol versions. Tata is likely to launch the electric Sierra within this financial year, followed by a petrol variant. This is not just a car, but a perfect mix of nostalgia and modern technology.
The Electric Sierra will follow the new EV design language but the petrol version will be no less. It could be powered by a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine that produces 168 PS and 280 Nm of torque. Diesel lovers could also have good news-the 2.0L diesel engine (170 PS and 350 Nm) that powers the Harrier and Safari can be used in this as well. Both manual and automatic transmission options are expected.
Now let’s talk about Tata’s future star Avinya, which could become their flagship electric vehicle. The concept has been seen but its production version is also going to come soon. From 2027, Tata will launch a new Avinya sub-brand that will have multiple body styles and models. Avinya will be built on Tata’s EMA platform, which is being localised in India to keep costs down. Tata will pay royalty to Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) for this platform, which will also benefit JLR-especially for the models made in India.
Apart from Sierra and Avinya, Tata is also working on a few more new cars, which are yet to be announced. They are codenamed ICE Product A, ICE Product B, EV Product X, and EV Product Y. Not much information is available about these cars yet, but it is clear that Tata is smartly planning its future portfolio. There will be something for every kind of customer-be it a daily commuter or a long-distance traveller.
Another new name that is in rumours is Tata Scarlet. This could be a compact SUV, which is being designed for urban users. The craze for SUVs is increasing day by day in India, and Scarlet could be for those who want a small, stylish and efficient SUV.
Tata has planned an investment of Rs. 35,000 crore for all this planning and development. This investment will support product development, factory upgrades, and innovation. This is a bold move, but if successful, Tata could become the leader in both EVs and traditional cars at the global level.
