Maruti Victoris vs Kia Seltos: Which SUV gives you real value for your money?

The midsize SUV segment in the Indian car market has always been a favourite among buyers. Every brand tries to give its best here, and now Maruti Suzuki has also entered this race with Victoris. Naturally, buyers’ comparison comes straight to Maruti Victoris vs Kia Seltos, as Seltos is already a popular and established name. Both SUVs have a different charm with their looks and engine options, but the real question is which model will provide you more value. Let’s understand in detail.

Maruti Victoris vs Kia Seltos: Engine And Transmission Options

The Maruti Victoris has been launched with multiple powertrain choices, including a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine (102bhp, 139Nm), a 1.5-litre strong-hybrid option, a CNG variant and an AWD petrol automatic. Gearbox options include a five-speed manual, six-speed torque converter automatic and an e-CVT for the hybrid.

The Kia Seltos offers a wide range of engine choices to its buyers. You get a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol that produces 113bhp and 144Nm, a 1.5-litre diesel option that produces 114bhp and 250Nm of torque, and there is also a 1.5-litre turbo petrol that feels the sportiest with 158bhp and 253Nm. Transmission options are quite flexible too – manual, iMT (clutchless manual), CVT, automatic and 7-speed DCT are all available.

Here, Maruti Victoris becomes an eco-friendly and pocket-friendly choice due to its hybrid and CNG versions, while Kia Seltos is perfect for those who are fans of performance due to its diesel and turbo petrol engines.

Maruti Victoris vs Kia Seltos: Fuel Efficiency

Mileage is a big priority for today’s buyers. This is where Maruti Victoris hybrid and CNG make the game different. According to ARAI, Victoris petrol manual gives mileage of 21.18kmpl, petrol automatic 21.06kmpl, strong hybrid 28.65kmpl, AWD automatic 19.07kmpl and CNG gives mileage of up to 27.02km/kg.

The diesel engine of Kia Seltos is quite popular for its efficiency. The petrol manual variant delivers around 17kmpl, the turbo-petrol DCT version goes up to 17.9kmpl and the diesel manual easily delivers 20.7kmpl.

If we talk about comparison, Maruti Victoris becomes a more economical and eco-friendly choice due to its hybrid and CNG options. But, the diesel variant of Seltos is best for those buyers who travel a lot on long drives and give priority to mileage.

Maruti Victoris vs Kia Seltos: Dimensions And Space

Both SUVs are almost similar in terms of size but minor differences could influence buyer’s decision. The Maruti Victoris measures 4,360mm in length while the Kia Seltos is slightly compact at 4,300mm. Talking about the width, the Seltos is slightly wider at 1,800mm and has a wheelbase of 2,610mm which is slightly larger than the Victoris’ 2,600mm.

The Seltos is in a pretty clear lead in boot space as it offers 433 litres. The official boot capacity of the Victoris is not yet confirmed but going by the Grand Vitara‘s reference it could be around 373 litres. So if you want more boot space and a roomy cabin feel, Seltos will definitely be a better option.

Maruti Victoris vs Kia Seltos: Features and Comfort

Today’s buyers don’t just look at the engine or mileage, but also focus a lot on features and comfort. The Maruti Victoris offers a 10.1-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, heads-up display, panoramic sunroof and an eight-speaker Infinity system with Dolby Atmos. It also gets a segment-first gesture-controlled powered tailgate.

The Kia Seltos is famous for its premium features. Here you get 10.25-inch infotainment and instrument cluster combo, panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, eight-speaker Bose audio system, dual-zone climate control and dash camera.

Both cars provide Level 2 ADAS and six airbags, which is a big plus point from the safety angle.

Pricing is always a deciding factor. Bookings for Maruti Suzuki Victoris were opened from 3 September and the company has positioned it between its Brezza and Grand Vitara. It is expected that its base variant will start at a price of slightly less than 10 lakh and top-spec trims will be slightly higher than Grand Vitara.

The ex-showroom price of the Kia Seltos currently starts from ₹ 11.19 lakh and goes upto ₹ 20.56 lakh. But after 22 September, due to the GST 2.0 rate changes, the prices of the Seltos may become a little more accessible. So if you are a wait-and-see buyer, it may be beneficial to wait a little longer.
