Hyundai Palisade Recall News: 600K Vehicles Affected by Seat Belt and Charging Port Issues

Hyundai Motor America confirmed on September 12 that Hyundai Palisade cars from 2020 through 2025 will be recalled. A total of 568,850 Palisade vehicles are to be recalled because the seat belt buckles in the models are not securing properly on the driver, passenger, and second-row seats.
As per the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), there have been 546 complaints about faulty seat belt latches, but fortunately, none of these incidents led to a crash, injury, or death. This indicates that Hyundai has taken a preventive measure so that no customer’s life would be put in danger.

If you have a 2020-2025 model Hyundai Palisade, Hyundai now recommends that you insert the seatbelt with a brisk, direct motion and tug on the belt to ensure the latch is securely locked.
Hyundai dealers will test your seat belt buckle at no cost to you and replace it if needed. This indicates that customers will not have to pay any additional amount, and the safety of the vehicle will be guaranteed.
Hyundai IONIQ 6 Charging Port Door Recall
Not only the Hyundai Palisade, but also the Hyundai IONIQ 6 electric vehicles have been recalled. Approximately 31,042 IONIQ 6 cars, manufactured between December 2022 and December 2024, have a potential issue with their charging port doors detaching.
According to the NHTSA report, six cases have been reported so far, but no crashes or injuries have been reported. The company has implemented a safe and free replacement policy for its customers, where dealers will inspect the charging port door and replace it if necessary.
Technical Problem Behind the Hyundai Palisade Recall
The NHTSA’s detailed report revealed that some Palisade models had seat belt buckle assemblies with out-of-specification components. These components were causing interference in the latch channel, increasing friction, especially in cold temperatures.
As a result, if the seat belt tongue plate is inserted slowly, the buckle may not latch properly. This means that a small technical error could pose a risk of injury to passengers. Customers may also notice a softer “click” sound when fastening the seat belt, indicating that the buckle did not lock properly.
How Serious is the Risk?
Although Hyundai recalled more than 500,000 Hyundai Palisade automobiles, the company estimates that only 1% of the vehicles are affected with this defect. This indicates that not every car is faulty, but even a single faulty seat belt can be life-threatening. This is why Hyundai proactively announced the recall.
