Apple patches Zero-Day Vulnerability: iPhone, iPad and Mac users should update immediately

Nowadays we all depend on our iPhones, iPads and Macs—be it for work, entertainment, or storing personal data. But when the security of these devices is attacked, the risk doubles. Now Apple has patched a zero-day vulnerability that was already being exploited by hackers. This was one such problem that Apple was not aware of beforehand and that is why it is called zero-day.

Apple has released an emergency security update, which is mandatory for all users to install. If you leave the update pending, your device will be open to a major cyber attack.

Zero-Day Vulnerability in Apple Devices

This vulnerability is being tracked under the name CVE-2025-43300. The problem was in Apple’s Image I/O framework—the same system that is used every time you open or save an image. By taking advantage of this bug, hackers could create a malicious image. As soon as you opened that image, the device’s memory would get corrupted and hackers could run their code.

Apple has also confirmed that this flaw was being used in an “extremely sophisticated attack” in which some specific individuals were targeted. Meaning, till now this was a targeted campaign, but history shows that as soon as a patch is released, the same exploit reaches the general users as well. That’s why every Apple user should update now.

Apple Update for iPhone and iPad

Apple has released iOS 18.6.2 for iPhones, which is available for iPhone XS and later models. iPadOS 18.6.2 has been given for iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad Mini and iPad (7th generation onwards). Older models like the iPad Pro 10.5-inch or iPad 6th gen users will have to install iPadOS 17.7.10.

To check for updates on your device, go to Settings > General > Software Update. If there is an update pending, install it immediately. Also, turn on Automatic Updates so that future updates are automatically installed.

Apple Update for Mac Users

Apple has released different versions of updates for Mac as well. If you use macOS Sequoia 15.6.1, macOS Sonoma 14.7.8, or macOS Ventura 13.7.8, the update is ready for you.

To update, just go to Apple menu > System Settings > General > Software Update and check. If the update is available, select “Download and Install.” This process can take some time and can also take more than one restart, so do not forget to save your work. After the update, your Mac becomes safe again and you do not have constant fear of hackers’ attacks.

CVE-2025-43300: A Technical Look

You must be wondering, what was this bug? In simple words, it was an out-of-bounds write vulnerability. Meaning the attacker enters those areas of the device’s memory that are normally restricted for him. When that memory gets corrupted, the attacker gets a chance to run his code.

Imagine you open an image and that image is actually a trap. You are only seeing a photo, but the hacker’s code is executed in the background. This is the reason why this vulnerability is called dangerous.

Why is it necessary to update?

Many people think that their personal device is not so important that a hacker would take interest. But the real problem is that a targeted attack later becomes a mass campaign. Today one or two users are targeted; tomorrow millions of users become vulnerable simultaneously.

Apple has taken fast action from its side and released the patch. Now it is the responsibility of the user to install the update. One small step can secure your personal photos, chats, banking details and complete data.

This zero-day patch from Apple is a reminder that you always have to be alert with technology. iPhones, iPads and Macs will remain safe only when they keep getting the latest updates. If you have left the update pending till now, then install it immediately. Because if you get late tomorrow, your device may become a part of another attack.

Do not consider your device as just a gadget—it is a part of your personal life. And now it is in your hands to secure that life.
